The Department of Hadith and Related Sciences (DHRS), under the Kulliyyah of Qur’an and Sunnah (KQS) at Darul Huda Islamic University, stands as one of the university’s oldest and most distinguished academic units. Renowned for its rich legacy and wide network of accomplished alumni, the department holds a leading role in integrating classical Hadith scholarship with contemporary research and interpretive methodologies. Dedicated to academic excellence, DHRS offers a dynamic curriculum that cultivates a deep, analytical understanding of Hadith literature and its relevance in shaping modern Islamic thought. Message of hod

The Department of Hadith and Related Sciences has consistently worked to nurture academically grounded and socially committed ‘Ulama equipped with expertise in Hadith sciences. We facilitate advanced-level study and research, contributing to the integration of classical traditions with contemporary scholarly needs. Our academic approach covers the science, history, and literature of Hadith and Sunnah, aiming to produce scholars capable of engaging both the Muslim community and the society


PROGRAM STRUCTURE

The Postgraduate Program in Hadith Literature is a two-year, four-semester course designed to offer rigorous academic training in the sciences, history, and literature of Hadith. The curriculum integrates core and elective courses, including related areas such as Qur’anic studies, to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the Prophetic tradition. The program also fosters a murshid–mustarshid relationship between faculty and students, encouraging close mentorship that supports academic, ethical, and spiritual development. Emphasizing critical inquiry, research methodology, and pedagogical skills, the program prepares students for advanced scholarship and meaningful engagement with contemporary intellectual and social contexts

CURRICULUM

The postgraduate curriculum offers comprehensive coverage of Hadith sciences, including Hadith history, methodology, criticism, commentary, and related disciplines. It emphasizes foundational knowledge alongside research, critical thinking, and academic writing skills. The two-year program spans four semesters and is offered in two modes: 1. Coursework and Research: Completion of six core courses followed by a supervised research project. 2. Coursework Only: Completion of eight core courses and a comprehensive examination based on selected academic texts in the field of Hadith studies. Independent study and research engagement are strongly encouraged throughout the program.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

The Department of Hadith and Related Sciences cultivates a dynamic academic atmosphere through structured seminars, scholarly workshops, and focused Hadith reading sessions that engage both classical texts and contemporary methodologies. With a strong emphasis on critical analysis and research proficiency, the department encourages active student participation in academic exchange programs—such as those with IIUM—and field-based internships. Leadership capacities are further developed through initiatives like the UG Leaders Camp and UG Summit. Integrated career guidance programs are designed to prepare students for advanced scholarly pursuits and community engagement, fostering graduates who are intellectually grounded and socially responsive within the Hadith tradition.

HADATHANI

A state-wide competition that promotes Hadith memorization along with chains of transmission (isnad), reviving the oral tradition central to Hadith scholarship.

RIHLA

An academic field trip exploring historical and contemporary Hadith centers nationally and internationally, designed to integrate travel, scholarship, and Da‘wa experience.

AL-IJAZA

An inter-institutional conference bringing together Hadith students from various undergraduate colleges, fostering academic networking and introducing the department’s scope and courses.

CERTIFICATE COURSES

Specialized certificate and diploma programs focus on key texts such as the Thulathiyath of Sahih alBukhari and Thuna’iyath of Muwatta Imam Malik, emphasizing methodological studies and deep textual engagement.
